Use the Taskbar instead of the startmenu.

Right-click on the taskbar and select Toolbars/New Toolbar. In the dialog box that opens, navigate to and open the C:\WINDOWS\START MENU folder, then choose the item you want to access.
Now you'll have single-click access to it right from the taskbar.

Stop Unwanted Launching Programs.

Beyond the StartUp folder, there are two ways that programs can direct Windows to launch them whenever Windows starts.
Some programs load this way from a section in the Registry; you can disable them by removing their program strings from the following two keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \RunServices
Any changes you make to the Registry will be *permanent* , so you may want to backup up your settings first.
The second way is by appending themselves to the LOAD= line in the WIN.INI file, which is found in the Windows folder.
Open the file with Notepad ( or the sysedit command from start/run line ), and delete any unwanted program names you find on this line.
You can also place a semicolon before LOAD= to prevent Windows from reading the entire line -- a good way to test your changes while making it easy to revert to the previous setting.
NOTES: There are a couple other places that a program can start from, The autoexec.bat & the Startup Group.

Increase your DOS games memory in Win95
For maximum DOS memory in an MS-DOS session, add the line LocalLoadHigh=1 to the [386Enh] section of SYSTEM.INI. anyone who plays a game that uses 32-bit DOS extender software-will reap the benefit of that much more memory.

Animation With Windows.
( have you backed up your Registry )
Turn off Animation when Min or Max Windows.
Launch Registry Editor,
Expand Branches,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ CONTROL PANEL \ DESKTOP.
Right click on the WINDOW-METRICS key,
select NEW \ STRING VALUE,
name it MinAnimate.
double click on MinAnimate key,
add 0 to the value data line. (this could speed up your video,less of the screen needs to be redrawn).

SHOW WINDOW CONTENTS WHILE DRAGGING .
Show Window Contents While Dragging option (also on the Effects tab), which displays your entire window as you drag it across the screen.
With this option turned off, clicking and dragging a window displays only an outline of the window in motion--the actual window stays in place until you release the mouse button.
Note: If your system is lacking in graphics capabilities, and you find that turning off this option enhances performance, by all means turn it off.

Windows boot-up pause.
Win95 pauses for about two seconds during boot-up to give you the opportunity to press a start-up key such as F8.
To remove the pause and make boot-up faster, open the MSDOS.SYS file (this file is a hidden file in Win98) in Notepad and add the entry BootDelay=0 to the [Options] section.

Remove items from RUN command list.
You can delete lines from this list by editing the Registry.
Note: As always, back up your Registry files--System.dat and User.dat, hidden files in the Windows folder--before proceeding.
Open the Registry Editor by selecting Start, Run, typing
regedit
clicking OK.
Navigate your way to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/ RunMRU.
In the right pane, you'll see all the items that currently appear in your Run list.
To delete an item, right-click its letter (under Name), select Delete, then click Yes to confirm.
Repeat these steps for every item you want to delete, making sure not to delete the items named MRUList and (Default).
When you've finished, close the Registry Editor;
then select Start, Run, and check out the new, shorter command list.

Edit/create the value "NoStartBanner" (DWORD value) and set the value to "1" (without quotes) to stop displaying the message, or "0" to display the message.

Free HDD Space.
Rmove Help File AVI`s
You can free up 7MB worth of space by deleting the video clips in the Windows 95 Help folder.
Select Start, Find, Files Or Folders. Click the Browse button, navigate your way to the C:\Windows\Help folder, and click OK. On the Named line, type
*.avi
then click the Find Now button.
See all those *.avi files? Select the top one, then hold down Shift as you click the last.
Now press the Delete key on your keyboard, and if prompted to do so, click Yes to confirm.
