Logview.exe

Your Win95 CD contains a utility called LOGVIEW.EXE. You'll find this utility in \OTHER\MISC\LOGVIEW.EXE LOGVIEW lets you view and edit your SCANDISK, CALLLOG, MODEMDET and NDISLOG files. These files can be helpful when you're troubleshooting some parts of your system. You can move LOGVIEW onto your hard disk, or just leave it on the CD.

Load Windows 95 fast.
Wanna reinstall win95 in about 7 minutes....try this.
1. Copy the files ( cab's and *.inf's ) from the windows 95 cd, copy the win95 directory to your hard drive.
2. Now copy the file AUTOMATE.INF in directory admin\reskit(?)\samples\scripts to the win95 directory on your hard drive.
3. Enter the win95 directory & Type in (is case sensitive) setup automate.inf /is /IW and enter.
Notes
1. This will do a typical install & its wont prompt you to press enter alot of times, will only be prompted to type in OEM number and Name of computer...it does the rest.
2. YOU MUST DISABLE ANY ZIP DRIVES ON THE SYSTEM IN CMOS.

EZ Extraction.
If you need to extract a fresh copy of a file, the Windows 98 File Checker will do that too.
Click the "Extract one file from installation disk" radio button , then specify the name of the file you want.
Enter x:\Win98 (where x is your CD-ROM drive letter) in the Restore from box.
Then enter the destination in the Save file in box.
The utility will search the CAB files in the \Win98 directory for the file and extract it into the desired folder.

Navigate your way to the Win98 cd\tools\reskit\help folder,
then double-click rk98book.chm.

Change path for windows cd.
If you have loaded the files from your Windows CD locally or on the network, use this setting to stop the prompt which asks you to put in your Windows CD when loading new options.
This setting will redirect the system to look in the directory where the files are loaded instead of automatically looking to the CD-ROM drive.
To set this option,
go to:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
Edit/create the value "SourcePath" (String Value) and set the value equal to the path where the Windows files are stored.

Modem Removal from registry.
Here's that registry key removal tool that's on the 98 cd.
Simply uninstall your modem - close all programs - run the .exe and it will attempt to clean the registry of those nasty registry keys.
This tool is specifically helpful when windows automatically detects the modem and installs the same corrupt/incorrect driver continuously.

On your windows 98 cd \DRIVERS\MODEM\3COM-USR\WINMODEM\wmregdel.exe

Windows Messaging: WMS.EXE Locate WMS.EXE on the Windows 98 CD ROM in Tools\OldWin95\Messaging directory.
MSfax: AWFAX.EXE Locate AWFAX.EXE on the Windows 98 CD ROM in Tools\OldWin95\Messaging directory.
